“Siri, What Flights Are Above Me?”

This was the running joke of the day, while my friend Sheila (you’ve seen her before) and I, walked around Castle Island.  Did you know that if you ask Siri what flights are over your head, she will tell you??  Not like we needed to ask… we are so close to Logan Airport, that we can read the plane, see the passengers, and taste the jet fuel.

Sheila and I always come up with the most random adventures.  Last time, we walked through the abandoned haunted hayride, and then up a MOUNTAIN (ski hill).  This time, we drove into Boston to walk around the beautiful Castle Island.  It really is nice to walk there, surrounded by the water, and people stretching their legs… in the summer.  In the frigid cold March weather?  Not so much.

It was cold.  Really cold.  I had my North Face hood squeezed as far closed as I could get it.  Sheila was covered in her sweatshirt.  We had music playing out loud (yeah, we’re THOSE people), and we just kept reminding ourselves how happy we were to be there.

The walk is a good distance; We managed a 2.18 Mile walk, before collapsing into icicles in my car.

Changing up the routine was the best thing for me.  I have been at the gym.  Inside.  Watching the gerbils on their wheels.  I have been ITCHING to get outside more, and walk, and Castle Island was the perfect place to go.

Only problem?  Resisting the fried fish and ice cream at Sullivan’s.  #alwaysafatkid

Just Keep Wunning.

Jet Fuel!!

Cool(ish) Sea Breeze

Does walking along the ocean after eating 45 pounds of fried fish, count as a workout?  How about as an attempt to make myself feel better?

So after an entire day and night of drinking, and eating while celebrating the Fourth, with friends, I decided to end the weekend with fried food…and a lot of it.  I won’t even pretend to lie here- it was delicious.  I’m pretty sure it was a mixture of the fried fish, the warm air, and the ocean views that made it so good, but it really was perfect. Until the end.

After eating all of that shit food, my stomach hated me.  It literally felt like someone dropped a bowling bowl down my throat, so after dinner, we crossed the street to the ocean and started to walk around.  I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, being in a new place, having new scenery, makes walking/wunning/running/moving in general, a whole lot more fun and exciting.

After about-ohhhh… 10 minutes, my back started to hurt, as my toes gripped the sand, so we decided we would head back to the boardwalk, and go to a new, more solid grounded (?), location.  Southie it was…

So, down in old South Boston, there is Castle Island;  home to Fort Independence.  It’s a great walk, right on the ocean with views of Logan Airport, and all sorts of boats.  Now, this walk was worth it.  Full of some serious (I mean SERIOUS) people watching, kites flying overhead, and sail boats in the harbor.  My personal favorite thing is the planes taking off from Logan, flying right over your head.

Anyways, the walk was great, although I forgot to pause my MapMyWalk app when we stopped, so Gertrude thinks it took me 26 minutes to go .81 miles…which it did NOT!
